Military IDs

To get a military ID card you must have a sponsor (military member meeting requirements for the type of card for which you are applying) who must complete the DD Form 1172-2 (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) application. Go to a Real-time Automated Personnel Identification System (RAPIDS) site for final verification and processing. They will complete the requirements for issuing the ID Card. The RAPIDS site locator will help schedule your appointment. The following three RAPIDS Sites are the closest locations to Portage County.

The Department of Defense green ID Card is issued for the following individuals.

  • Members of the Individual Ready Reserves and Inactive National Guard

The Department of Defense red ID Card is issued for the following individuals.

  • Retired members of the Reserves and National Guard under the age of 60 (Grey area retirees).
    • Military IDs 2Dependents of:

      Former members not in receipt of retired pay

    • Reserve members not on Active Duty or in receipt of retired pay

    • Reserve service members who die after receipt of NOE

  • Other benefits-eligible categories as described in the DoD policy.

The Department of Defense blue ID Card is issued for the following individuals.Military IDs 3

  • Retired members are entitled to retired pay
  • Members on the Temporary Disability Retired List (TDRL)
  • Members on the Permanent Disability Retired List (PDRL)

The Department of Defense tan ID Card is issued for the following individuals.

  • 100% disabled veterans
  • Area Executives, Center Directors, and Assistant Directors of the USO when Serving OCONUS
  • Former members in receipt of retired pay
  • Medal of Honor recipients
  • Officers and Crews of MSC Vessels deployed to foreign countriesMilitary IDs 4
  • Other benefits-eligible categories as described in the DoD policy
  • Select Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) personnel
  • Transitional Health Care Member (TAMP)
  • United Seaman's Service (USS) Personnel Oconus
  • Dependents of:
    • 100% Disabled Veterans (DAV)
    • Active-duty service members
    • Former members in receipt of retired pay
    • Medal of Honor recipients
    • Reserve component servicemembers on active duty for more than 30 days
    • Retirees
