The Portage County Groundwater Management Plan was first created in 1988 and was updated in 2004 and 2017.
The purpose of the plan is to assess the current quality and quantity of the groundwater resources (including trends); identify the uses and users that depend on this resource; discuss the vulnerabilities to contamination and depletion; categorize the impacts and conflicts related to these uses, and considers the potential impacts of changes in uses; and provides options and recommendations for mediating conflicts based on groundwater sustainability.
The Portage County Planning and Zoning, the Land and Water Conservation, and the Agriculture and Extension Education Committees recommended the Portage County Groundwater Management Plan for recommendation to the Portage County Board of Supervisors on June 26, 2017. The 2017 Portage County Groundwater Management Plan was adopted by the Portage County Board of Supervisors on July 18, 2017, and was signed by the Portage County Executive on July 20, 2017.
